This Bani is part of the Bachitar Natak which is the third main composition in the Dasam Granth, the second holy Scripture of the Sikhs. The first two compositions in the Dasam Granth are Jaap Sahib and Akal Ustat.
| ਜੁੱਧ ਭਯੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ ਤੁਰਕਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਸਿਰਦਾਰਾ ॥
|
| जु्ध भयो इह भांति अपारा ॥ तुरकन को मारिओ सिरदारा ॥
|
| In this way, the great battle was fought, when the leader of the Turks (Muhammedans) was killed.
|
| ਰਿਸ ਤਨ ਖਾਨ ਦਿਲਾਵਰ ਤਏ ॥ ਇਤੈ ਸਊਰ ਪਠਾਵਤ ਭਏ ॥੧॥
|
| रिस तन खान दिलावर तए ॥ इतै सऊर पठावत भए ॥१॥
|
| On this Dilawar become very angry and sent a contingent of horsemen in this direction.1.
|
| ਉਤੈ ਪਠਿਓ ਉਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੁਝਾਰਾ ॥ ਤਿਹ ਭਲਾਨ ਤੇ ਖੇਦਿ ਨਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
|
| उतै पठिओ उन सिंघ जुझारा ॥ तिह भलान ते खेदि निकारा ॥
|
| From the other side, Jujhar Singh was sent, who drove out the enemy from Bhallan immediately.
|
| ਇਤਿ ਗਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਮਾ ਦਲ ਜੋਰਾ ॥ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਊਪਰ ਭੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
|
| इति गज सिंघ पमा दल जोरा ॥ धाइ परे तिन ऊपर भेरा ॥२॥
|
| On this side Gaj Singh and Pamma (Parmanand) assembled their forces and fell upon them early in the morning.2.
|
| ਉਤੈ ਜੁਝਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਯੋ ਆਡਾ ॥ ਜਿਮ ਰਨ ਖੰਭ ਭੂਮਿ ਰਨਿ ਗਾਡਾ ॥
|
| उतै जुझार सिंघ भयो आडा ॥ जिम रन ख्मभ भूमि रनि गाडा ॥
|
| On the other side Jujhar Singh stood firmly like a flagpost planted in the battlefield.
|
| ਗਾਡਾ ਚਲੇ ਨ ਹਾਡਾ ਚਲਿ ਹੈ ॥ ਸਾਮੁਹਿ ਸੇਲ ਸਮਰ ਮੋ ਝਲਿ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
|
| गाडा चले न हाडा चलि है ॥ सामुहि सेल समर मो झलि है ॥३॥
|
| Even the flagpost might be loosened, but the brave Rajput did not waver, he received the blows without flinching.3.
|
| ਬਾਟ ਚੜ੍ਹੈ ਦਲ ਦੋਊ ਜੁਝਾਰਾ ॥ ਉਤੈ ਚੰਦੇਲ ਇਤੈ ਜਸਵਾਰਾ ॥
|
| बाट चड़्है दल दोऊ जुझारा ॥ उतै चंदेल इतै जसवारा ॥
|
| The warriors of both armies moved in detachments, Raja of Chandel on that side and Raja of Jaswar on this side.
|
| ਮੰਡਿਓ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤ ਮੋ ਜੁੱਧਾ ॥ ਉਪਜਿਉ ਸਮਰ ਸੂਰ ਮਨ ਕੁ੍ਰਧਾ ॥੪॥
|
| मंडिओ बीर खेत मो जु्धा ॥ उपजिउ समर सूर मन कु्रधा ॥४॥
|
| All the warriors were in great rage and the fight began in the battlefield.4.
|
| ਕੋਪ ਭਰੇ ਦੋਊ ਦਿਸ ਭਟ ਭਾਰੇ ॥ ਇਤੈ ਚੰਦੇਲ ਉਤੈ ਜਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
|
| कोप भरे दोऊ दिस भट भारे ॥ इतै चंदेल उतै जसवारे ॥
|
| The brave heroes of both the armies were in great anger, warriors of Chandel on this side and warriors of Jaswar on the other.
|
| ਢੋਲ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਬਜੇ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ ਭੀਮ ਰੂਪ ਭੈਰੋ ਭਭਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
|
| ढोल नगारे बजे अपारा ॥ भीम रूप भैरो भभकारा ॥५॥
|
| Many drums and trumpets resounded, the terrible Bhairo (the god of war) shouted.5.
|

| RASAAVAL STANZA

| ਧੁਣੰ ਢੋਲ ਬੱਜੇ ॥ ਮਹਾਂ ਸੂਰ ਗੱਜੇ ॥
|
| धुणं ढोल ब्जे ॥ महां सूर ग्जे ॥
|
| Listening to the resounding voice of the drums, the warriors thunder.
|
| ਕਰੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਘਾਵੰ ॥ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਵੰ ॥੬॥
|
| करे ससत्र घावं ॥ चड़्हे चित चावं ॥६॥
|
| They inflict wounds with weapons, their minds filled with great zest.6.
|
| ਨ੍ਰਿਭੈ ਬਾਜ ਡਾਰੈ ॥ ਪਰਘੈ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੈ ॥
|
| न्रिभै बाज डारै ॥ परघै प्रहारै ॥
|
| Fearlessly, they cause their horses to run and strike the blows of axes.
|
| ਕਰੇ ਤੇਗ ਘਾਯੰ ॥ ਚੜ੍ਹੇ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਯੰ ॥੭॥
|
| करे तेग घायं ॥ चड़्हे चित चायं ॥७॥
|
| Many inflict wounds with their swords and the minds of all are very enthusiastic.7.
|
| ਬਕੈ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰੰ ॥ ਨ ਸੰਕਾ ਬਿਚਾਰੰ ॥
|
| बकै मार मारं ॥ न संका बिचारं ॥
|
| From their mouths, they shout "kill, kill", without any doubts.
|
| ਰੁਲੈ ਤੱਛ ਮੁੱਛੰ ॥ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਰਗ ਇੱਛੰ ॥੮॥
|
| रुलै त्छ मु्छं ॥ करै सुरग इछं ॥८॥
|
| The chopped warriors are rolling in dust and wish to go to heaven.8.
|
| ਨੈਕ ਨ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਰਿ ਚਲੇ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਡਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਘਾਇ ॥
|
| नैक न रन ते मुरि चले करै निडर ह्वै घाइ ॥
|
| They do not retrace their steps from the battlefield and inflict wounds fearlessly.
|
| ਗਿਰ ਗਿਰ ਪਰੈ ਪਵੰਗ ਤੇ ਬਰੇ ਬਰੰਗਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੯॥
|
| गिर गिर परै पवंग ते बरे बरंगन जाइ ॥९॥
|
| Those who fall from their horses, the heavenly damsels go to wed them.9.
|
| ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੋਤ ਭਯੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਾ ॥ ਜੂਝੇ ਚੰਦ ਨਰਾਇਨ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
|
| इह बिधि होत भयो संग्रामा ॥ जूझे चंद नराइन नामा ॥
|
| In this way, the battle continued on both sides (with great vigour). Chandan Rai was killed.
|
| ਤਬ ਜੁਝਾਰ ਏਕਲ ਹੀ ਧਯੋ ॥ ਬੀਰਨ ਘੇਰਿ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਲਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
|
| तब जुझार एकल ही धयो ॥ बीरन घेरि दसो दिस लयो ॥१०॥
|
| Then Jajhar Singh continued the fight quite alone. He was surrounded from all the sides.10.
|
| ਧਸਯੋ ਕਟਕ ਮੈ ਝਟਕ ਦੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥
|
| धसयो कटक मै झटक दै कछू न संक बिचार ॥
|
| He rushed into the army of the enemy without any hesitation.
|
| ਗਾਹਤ ਭਯੋ ਸੁਭਟਨ ਬਡਿ ਬਾਹਿਤ ਭਯੋ ਹਥਿਆਰ ॥੧੧॥
|
| गाहत भयो सुभटन बडि बाहित भयो हथिआर ॥११॥
|
| And killed many soldiers, wielding his weapons very skillfully.11.
|
| ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਣੇ ਘਰਨ ਕੋ ਗਾਰਾ ॥ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਥਿਯਾਰਾ ॥
|
| इह बिधि घणे घरन को गारा ॥ भांति भांति के करि हथियारा ॥
|
| In this way, he destroyed many homes, using various kinds of weapons.
|
| ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਬੀਰ ਪਖਰੀਆ ਮਾਰੇ ॥ ਅੰਤਿ ਦੇਵ ਪੁਰਿ ਆਪ ਪਧਾਰੇ ॥੧੨॥
|
| चुनि चुनि बीर पखरीआ मारे ॥ अंति देव पुरि आप पधारे ॥१२॥
|
| He aimed and killed the brave horsemen, but at last he left for the heavenly abode himself.12.
|
